January Meeting Schedule:

              Monday, January 10, 2011  Finance Committee Meeting @ 3:30 p.m. @  Town Hall

              Thursday, January 13, 2011 Planning Commission Meeting @ 7:00 p.m. @ Town Hall

              Tuesday, January 18, 2010 Board of Trustees Meeting @ 7:00 p.m. @ Town Hall

The Board of Trustees discussed rate increases at their meeting in December.  The board weighed all options, and made a decision to leave water rates at their current  level, and to increase the sewer rates by $1.50 per user.  The bids for the wastewater project were considerably higher than the budgeted amount that was submitted with the grant request two years ago.  Unfortunately, the delays due to the State of Colorado’s design review requirements led to this shortfall in the budget.  This rate increase will help to partially fill this gap.  Water rates will be reviewed again at a later date.

The 2011 Budget was adopted at the board of trustees meeting on Monday, December 13, 2010.  Copies of this budget are available at town hall and can be purchased for $6.50.  Alternatively you may download a copy free of charge on the town’s website townofkeenesburg.com.   We were able to order seven obsolete fire hydrants that needed replacement prior to the end of the year, and the installation of these hydrants has been budgeted for in 2011.  Some of the other planned expenditures include the purchase of a backhoe, striping machine, air conditioning for the town shop office for the protection of the electrical equipment, and new trees, landscaping, benches etc for the park, as well as the completion of the wastewater treatment facility expansion.  In addition to these expenditures the town will hold a spring clean up day, and the board has added a community support fund to the budget for the purpose of supporting local non profit organizations that would like to request financial support.

The Town of Keenesburg will be hosting the Mayor’s Bulls Eye meeting on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Town Hall.  This group meets on a bi-monthly basis to discuss topics that affect all of us; these surrounding communities include Brighton, Eaton, Evans, Fort Lupton, Garden City, Gilcrest, Greeley, Kersey, LaSalle, Milliken, and Platteville.

Allstate Permit Services has been busy contacting homeowners in town.  They represent Seitel Data, Ltd and are working to complete seismic testing in this region of Weld County, to help identify oil and gas beneath the surface.  This process will not involve any digging and or drilling.  The process by which they will accomplish this consists of  a truck that pounds the ground to send the sound waves into the earth this truck will be using the town’s streets, a cord will be laid across your property (with your permission and a signed permit) and that will allow them to gather the information that they seek.

PUBLIC WORKS REPORT, JANUARY, 2011

The bid for the wastewater treatment expansion project was awarded to Connell Resources, Inc.  The project was bid at $282,273.20, and the contracts are in the process of being signed by all parties.  The construction should begin sometime during the month of January weather permitting.  Pardon our dust as we grow!

Please remember that your dogs must be on a leash when walking them.  We will respond to any report of a dog running at large, they will be picked up and the owner will be assessed a fee and in many cases a summons to court as well.

Please welcome Tony Zimbelman as he has been promoted to a full time employee of the town as of January 1, 2011.  He is a great addition to our staff!
