             Tuesday, January 19, 2010 Board of Trustees Meeting @ 7:00 p.m. @ Town Hall

The Town of Keenesburg will be conducting a municipal election on April 6, 2010.  There will be three openings on the Board of Trustees, and one for Mayor.  Please give this some consideration and notify the Town Clerk if you intend to run for office this Spring.  We will be conducting a candidate information session on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.  This information session will help candidates navigate the election laws for the distribution of petitions and reporting requirements as well as looking at public officials liability issues.  The first day that petitions may be distributed is Monday, February 15, 2010, election packets will be ready for pick-up on Friday, February 12, 2010.

In addition to the election of the Mayor and Trustees, the Town of Keenesburg will be placing a mill levy increase question on the ballot.  This question will be nearly identical to the one that was on the ballot this past November, asking for an increase of 6.748 mills bringing the total town mill levy to 22 mills.  The impact of this increase will be small as the water bond will be paid off in 2010 thereby eliminating a mill levy of 2.93 that is currently collected.  This election will be a polling place election held at the Town Hall, please be sure to vote.

Please remember to keep your business licenses current, as they did expire on December 31, 2009.

Dog licenses are an annual event as well, please keep your dog licenses current!  This helps staff to locate owners if your pet happens to stray.

The water bills have been estimated this month due to the weather.  Please contact Chasity if you have any questions 303-732-4281.

    PUBLIC WORKS REPORT-JANUARY, 2010

Hopefully everyone had a great holiday season, and we would like to wish everyone a prosperous new year!

Before the holiday break, the town picked up the 5 AIRE-O2 TRITON dual mode process aerators that were purchased from St. Vrain Sanitation District. These aerators are only 3 years old and with their low rpm 10 HP motors, they will be an efficient addition to the new expanded wastewater treatment lagoons.

The plans for School District RE-3J to install a pipeline from the town’s 12” water transmission line to Weld Central Jr/Sr High Schools are well under way. Groundwork should begin in the near future.

As a reminder, the restrooms at the park have been closed and winterized for the season. They will re-open in the Spring.

Public Works Director Marc Sirios, will be attending a free water sampling compliance class this month at Fort Morgan Community College.  This class will offer continuing education points that are required to maintain water certifications.
