November Meeting Schedule: Monday, November 7, 2011 Finance Committee Meeting @ 3:30 p.m. @ Town Hall Thursday, November 10, 2011 Planning Commission meeting @ 7:00 p.m. @ Town Hall Monday, November 14, 2011 Board of Trustees Meeting @ 6:00 p.m. @ Town Hall The oil and gas business is booming in Weld County. Complaints about the increased truck traffic are common place. These companies do care about the communities that they impact, and this is evident by the incredibly generous donations that the Town of Keenesburg has received recently. Weld County Road 16 ½ is the responsibility of the Town of Keenesburg for about 1 mile heading west out of town. This road is in terrible shape, and we have worked diligently to try to keep it graded, but it is not long before it is covered with washboards that make it difficult to stay on the road. We had planned on resurfacing this road before winter, however we were shocked when we received estimates that were in excess of $70,000.00! Needless to say this project is cost prohibitive, we then tried to get bids for just the delivery of material, and the Mayor generously wanted to donate the use of Coors equipment, and his time to spread the new road base. When Gusher Oil Company was approached to change their bid to include only material, he offered to donate part of it, and before long he volunteered to donate the entire project! Mr. Gutterson took it upon himself to help the town with this project. His generosity is overwhelming and it could not have come at a better time, as I am sure that the many who frequently use county road 16 ½ would agree. In addition to this donation, Chesapeake Oil Company has offered the donation of ½ ton ford truck to the town! They will even have the logo painted on the truck before it will arrive! There will be additional information to follow regarding this new addition to the town’s vehicles. The Town of Keenesburg is extremely grateful for these generous donations, and we welcome the oil and gas companies, and thank them for their support of this community! The next time you see an oil and gas company employee driving down the road give them a wave and welcoming smile. The Keenesburg Chamber of Commerce will be holding their annual Chirstmas in Keenesburg celebration. This celebration will be held on Saturday December 3, 2011 from 2:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. The festivities will include vendor booths, a Christmas Tree decorating Contest, a parade, and the tree lighting ceremony, Mayor Kipp will be on hand to speak at the tree lighting ceremony before the lights come on! The parade is scheduled for 5:30 that evening, and the tree lighting will immediately follow the parade. We are in need of float entries, please consider making your own and entering the parade. Please contact Janet Huck for details at 303-591-6099. For any general questions please contact Christina Roskop at 303-732-0131. The new year will bring election time to the Town of Keenesburg. There are three openings on the Board of Trustees, and the position of Mayor. There will be an information session scheduled in December for those who are interested in running for office, and when the date is scheduled it will be posted on the bulletin board at the post office and in the windows at town hall. We will also announce the date in the next edition of the towns newsletter, so watch for the date! Election day will be Tuesday, April 3, 2012. The Town of Keenesburg has a leash law, dogs are not allowed to run loose, in addition all dogs are required to be licensed with the town. We have had many complaints lately about dogs running loose, please keep your dogs in or on a leash. If your dog is picked up there is an impound fee of $20 plus a $10 per day boarding fee, there is not a summons for a first offense, however if they are picked up again, the impound fee increases to $50 plus $10 per day board fee, and in addition a summons will be issued, requiring you to go to court, where a fine will be imposed as well as court fees. The dog license fee is $5.00 per year, please license your dogs. The Town of Keenesburg does hold a municipal court, we first issue a warning, with a seven day notice to correct any ordinance violation other than animal related (see above for animal violations). If the violation is not corrected in the time allowed, you will be issued a summons that will include a mandatory court appearance. The towns of Keenesburg, Hudson, and Kersey along with Weld County have formed a committee to begin the process of putting together an Access Control Plan for Weld County Road 49. There have been several meetings with the plans progressing, it now looks like we will be ready for public meetings to get your input sometime in either January, or February. We will keep you posted, please watch for additional information in this newsletter.
