There has been a lot of roofing contractors in town, please make sure that if you have someone doing work for you that they obtain a contractors license so as not to delay your project. The upcoming election in November will present three questions to the voters that will have a negative impact on the finances of cities and towns across Colorado. Proposition 101 reduces specific ownership tax , vehicle registration fees, eliminates sales tax on the first $10,000 of a vehicle and eliminates sales tax on telecommunications services if passed. If proposition 101 is approved the Town of Keenesburg will lose approximately $44,000 annually after all provisions are phased in. Amendment 60 cancels voter authorized property tax TABOR over-rides, and limits any future TABOR over-rides to four years. This amendment takes away the mill levy increase that was passed by voters this past April. The Town will not be able to collect the additional approximately $49,000 that was approved by the voters of Keenesburg. Amendment 61 if approved will require municipalities to get voter approval for any public debt, including lease-purchase and lease-back financing, and will limit municipal borrowing to 10 percent of real property assessed value, and will additionally require the Town to pay property tax on real property increasing overall expenses. If this amendment is approved the Town of Keenesburg will have a severely limited ability to finance large capital projects.
PUBLIC WORKS REPORT-SEPTEMBER,2010
Quality Asphalt just completed the patching of some of the areas that have been in need of attention for the past couple of years and put down some hot mix. Public works will continue to use cold mix in other areas where small spots are in need of repair. The new wastewater treatment facility project is awaiting final approval from the state. We are hopeful that we will be able to have this project out for bid in November. Coors Energy is generously donating their scraper so we can move enough dirt to accommodate the 15,000 yards needed to do the expansion. The park bathrooms are in the process of being winterized and will be closed till next spring. We hope to get some trees planted in the park yet this fall. Any donations for a tree in excess of $50.00 will get their name on the plaque that is mounted on the east side of the restroom building. These donations may also be made in memory of a loved one. We ask that you please use caution when approaching a coned area as the public works guys are working in the streets: water valve cleanout /exercise, manhole inspection, sign replacement, patching, etc. Thanks again to all of you for making sure your water meters are accessible. It has helped with our meter reading and maintenance.
