The Town of Keenesburg will host a town wide garage sale on September 17-19, 2010.  We will be placing an advertisement in the newspaper and will  post a list of participating address on our website.  Fliers will also be available ahead of time with a list of participating addresses.  If you wish to participate please call town hall with your address so we can add it to the website and flier.  If you have any questions  please feel free to call us at 303-732-4281.

The upcoming election in November will present three questions to the voters that will have a negative impact on the finances of cities and towns across Colorado.

Proposition 101 reduces specific ownership tax , vehicle registration fees, eliminates sales tax on the first $10,000 of a vehicle and eliminates sales tax on telecommunications services if passed.  If proposition 101 is approved the Town of Keenesburg will  lose approximately $44,000 annually after all provisions are phased in.  Amendment 60 cancels voter authorized property tax TABOR over-rides, and limits any future TABOR over-rides to four years.  This amendment takes away the mill levy increase that was passed by voters this past April.  The Town will not be able to collect the additional approximately $49,000 that was approved by the voters of Keenesburg.

Amendment 61 if approved will require municipalities to get voter approval for any public debt, including lease-purchase and lease-back financing, and will limit municipal borrowing to 10 percent of real property assessed value, and will additionally call for no state government debt.  If this amendment is approved the Town of Keenesburg will have a severely limited ability to finance large capital projects.

PUBLIC WORKS REPORT-AUGUST,2010

The new wastewater treatment facility expansion is moving forward and we don’t anticipate any delays in the coming months.

With the weed season winding down, we are trying to keep ahead of the growth by spraying and mowing.

Thanks to everyone who was involved in the Southeast Weld County Fair Weekend. It was a wonderful success, and we would like to thank everyone who did such a tremendous job of taking care of the town’s facilities.

We are noticing that some of our trees at Schey Park are showing signs of dying. We would encourage anybody that would like to donate a tree in memory of a loved one to contact Town Hall, any donations would be greatly appreciated! It is a nonstop process to replace trees in our park, in order to maintain the appearance of our wonderful park! Thank you!

Finally, thank you all for the diligence that you have shown in keeping our access to your water meters open. We are getting closer to where we need to be, so please continue to make sure that your water meter is accessible to the town’s water meter reader.
